It is correctly felt by many psychiatrists and interested laymen that there been very bad gaps in the psychiatric education of the country's doctors. Somet 7'/j has always been done, of course, for psychiatrists themselves, but many me?l Ed practitioners show ignorance or dislike of psychiatric problems. Amongst the " Af< promising features of present-day psychiatry, therefore, are its increasing accep'3 57 in the undergraduate curriculum, and a rising demand by general practitioners Pr better instruction in this field. These trends are reflected in the present volume, ^ deals with the gamut of psychiatric teaching and learning for the medical profesS: Tl and contains contributions on all stages of undergraduate and postgraduate educa' 0; There is also an introductory historical survey by Lewis, which is of particular int?(th On the whole, however, the volume tends to give a somewhat sketchy accoufl1 T, the state of teaching in one or two places, together with a heavy dose of St opinions of various authorities.
